About

Golden State Choral Competition

Established in 1995, the California Golden State Choral Competition is an invitation-only event that brings the top high school choirs in the Northern California region together for friendly showcase and competition. Its stated mission is "To seek out and award choral excellence throughout the state of California".  Schools may compete in one of both of two divisions: Large Choir and Small Choir.

The event starts off with performances adjudicated by highly regarded choral directors, and concludes with an awards ceremony attended by all choirs.

The Large Choir Division Champions of the previous year's competition do not compete, but host the event, and perform during the concluding Concert and Awards Ceremony.

The Golden State Choral Competition is not organized by any single organization and is not supported by any general fund.  Its annual execution is handed down from winning school to winning school and put together on a grass-roots level by parent volunteers, choir director, and students.

Throughout the years, the competition has been held at the beautiful Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, which graciously provides the choirs with the use of both their Sanctuary Hall for the large choir performances and Paulin Hall for the small choir, as well as adjacent facilities to ensure a successful event.
